Audubon Field Academy comes to Savannas Preserve State Park
Jensen Beach, FL –The Savannas Preserve State Park is partnering with Audubon of Martin County to bring Audubon Field Academy to the Treasure Coast. The Audubon Field Academy is a newly developed educational program designed for adults interested in Florida’s environment and wildlife, with an emphasis on birds and their habitats. Audubon representative John Nelson has been working to develop the 2-year certification program and will present An Introduction to Audubon Field Academy on Saturday, September 12th at 10am at the Savannas Education Center. This lecture is free and open to the public. Come learn more about this exciting new educational opportunity for nature enthusiasts.
“The Audubon Field Academy is the first of its kind in Florida”, says Mr. Nelson. “At this time there exists no other Birding Naturalist Certification in the state.” The hope is that this Audubon of Martin County-specific course will evolve into a state-wide certification similar to the Florida Master Naturalist and Florida Master Gardner programs already in place.
John Nelson is the president of Audubon of Martin County and the voice of The Audubon Moment heard on the Florida Public Radio Network. A certified Florida Master Naturalist through the University of Florida, John Nelson is a wildlife videographer and holds a degree in anthropology from Seattle Pacific University. He was also a contributor to the National Geographic channel’s “World’s Deadliest” series.
The Savannas Education Center is located at 2541 SE Walton Road in Port St. Lucie; (772) 398-2779.
